This data was assembled through an anonymous survey of compliance professionals at varying levels of seniority and organization type.
Stay Competitive: Compliance Salary Trends
1. Total Compliance Compensation Trends:
The median total compensation was up 10% from 2021 for all industries, across all positions. Base compensation was up 8%, with a 14% increase in LTI (long-term incentives) from 2021.
2. Salary Increases Across Industry:
Base salaries saw a raise across all industries for all compliance positions. The industrial and manufacturing industry saw the highest increase at 7%, with the consumer and technology industries close behind at 6%. Compliance officers in the professional services industry saw the lowest average base salary increase at 4%.
3. Attending a Top Law School Meant Higher Pay:
On average, compliance officers who went to Top 50 law schools make 55% more than law schools ranked 100+. Compliance lawyers with Am Top 50 law firm experience make 85% more in total compensation than lawyers who worked for a small or boutique law firm.
4. Compliance Compensation by Gender:
In 2022, male respondents reported a slightly higher compensation rate than their female peers. While bonuses and LTI were equitable, our survey found a 2% higher base salary and 1.7% higher total compensation for men.
