Five Trends for Compliance Officer Salary

1. Public vs. Private Company CCO Salary Trends

There were year-over-year increases in Chief Compliance Officer compensation for public companies and nonprofits, and a slight decrease for private companies. Compensation at public companies was up 7%, and up 12% for nonprofits. Compensation was down 1% for CCOs at private companies.

2. Cooling Salary Increases by Industry

Salaries increased for CCOs across the reported 7 industry categories; however, the rate of those increases declined year-over-year, except for Financial Services, where increases remained the same, at 5%.

3. Likelihood of Compensation-Motivated Job Search

Respondents from non-profit companies were the most likely to pursue a compensation-related job search, with 40% of those surveyed rating their likelihood as high or very high. In contrast, 35% of public company respondents and 37% of private company respondents reported they were likely to search for a new position.

4. Compliance Compensation by Gender

In 2023, the total compensation for CCOs at both public and private companies was higher for men than women, whereas the trend reversed at non-profits, where women were paid more than their male counterparts. At public companies, men made 29% more than their female colleagues. At private companies, men earned 9% more than women, but that trend reversed itself at nonprofit companies where women made 9% more than their male colleagues.
