Tell us about your professional journey and what led you to a career in executive search.

My career has always centered around people, leadership, and helping organizations succeed through talent. I began my professional journey serving in the U.S. Army, where I learned the importance of leadership, teamwork, and mission-focused execution. After earning my degree, I moved into recruiting and talent acquisition roles across a variety of industries. Over the past decade, I’ve progressed from recruiter to talent acquisition leader, partnering with executives to build teams, develop hiring strategies, and solve complex talent challenges. Along the way, I earned both an MBA and a JD, which expanded my understanding of business strategy and the legal environment organizations operate within.

Executive search was a natural next step because it allows me to bring together my experiences in leadership, talent strategy, business, and law to help organizations identify leaders who can make a lasting impact.

You bring both legal training and recruiting experience to your work. How does that combination help you serve clients and candidates?

The combination gives me a unique perspective. My recruiting background allows me to understand talent markets, assess leadership capabilities, and guide organizations through complex hiring decisions. My legal training helps me understand the regulatory, governance, and risk considerations that legal and compliance leaders face every day. Together, they allow me to engage clients and candidates with a deeper understanding of both the business and legal dimensions of executive leadership. I can appreciate the technical requirements of legal and compliance roles while also evaluating leadership style, business judgment, and organizational fit. Ultimately, it helps me serve as a more strategic advisor throughout the search process.

What attracted you to BarkerGilmore, and what excites you most about joining the team?

BarkerGilmore’s reputation in the legal, compliance, and risk leadership space immediately stood out to me. What really attracted me, though, was the opportunity to focus on an area where my professional experience and educational background naturally intersect. The firm’s commitment to quality, diversity, and long-term client success aligns closely with my own values. I’m excited to partner with organizations on some of their most important leadership decisions while working with a team that is widely respected across the industry.

What qualities distinguish exceptional legal and compliance leaders from good ones?

Exceptional legal and compliance leaders do much more than provide legal guidance or manage risk. They are strategic business partners who understand the organization’s objectives and help enable growth while protecting the enterprise. They possess strong judgment, communicate effectively across all levels of an organization, and build trust with executive leadership and boards. The best leaders are also adaptable, collaborative, and able to navigate ambiguity while maintaining high ethical standards. In my experience, they also have the ability to translate complex legal and compliance issues into practical business advice that enables better decision-making.

What trends are you seeing in today’s legal and compliance talent market?

Organizations are increasingly seeking leaders who can operate at the intersection of legal expertise, risk management, and business strategy. Companies want legal and compliance executives who can advise on evolving regulatory requirements, emerging technologies, data privacy, AI governance, and enterprise risk. We’re also seeing a continued emphasis on leadership skills, stakeholder management, and the ability to influence across the organization. Organizations increasingly value leaders who can build high-performing cultures while guiding their business through rapid regulatory, technological, and geopolitical change.

What is the most rewarding aspect of helping clients identify the right leaders for their organizations?

The most rewarding aspect is seeing the long-term impact of a successful placement. Leadership decisions have a ripple effect across an entire organization. When you help a client identify the right executive, you’re not just filling a role; you’re helping shape the future of the business. It’s equally rewarding to help candidates achieve career milestones and step into opportunities where they can maximize their impact. Being trusted by both clients and candidates during such important decisions is something I never take for granted.

What’s a lesson you’ve learned during your career that continues to guide you today?

One lesson I’ve learned is that the strongest professional relationships are built on trust, and the strongest outcomes come from building trust, listening carefully, and understanding the needs and perspectives of others. Whether you’re leading a team, advising a client, or helping a candidate navigate a career decision, credibility and genuine partnership are essential. That principle has guided me throughout my career and continues to shape how I approach every professional relationship.

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of?

Earning both my MBA and JD while simultaneously advancing into senior leadership roles in talent acquisition is something I’m particularly proud of, but what I’m most proud of is using that diverse background to create value for organizations and individuals alike. Whether building high-performing leadership teams, mentoring talent, or guiding executives through important career decisions, I find that creating meaningful outcomes for both organizations and individuals is most rewarding.
